Winning the Hooker Contest

Still the Happiest Hooker

This week’s success story comes from the winner of the California Hooker Contest at the 2013 California Dreamin’ writers conference, Alexis Lusonne Montgomery. The hook in Monk’s Maybe Baby took top prize, the silver hook necklace.

For more information about this year’s contest, see our contest page.

hooker-hookI’m delighted to say I’m still the happiest hooker in the room.

I just signed a two book contract with Entangled Publishing, a publisher I met at the 2013 California Dreamin’ Conference.

I participated in the critique group led by Liz Pelletier who was and is amazing. I sent my finished manuscript to Entangled because of that experience.

Winning the Hooker contest was an incredible validation – along the lines of “O.M.G. I wrote it and somebody really liked it!

This first place win was brought about by divine intervention—I didn’t think about entering, I just did it. As my Aunt Betty used to say, “You can’t win the lottery, dear, if you never buy a ticket.”

Wearing the silver hook is a wonderful reminder of the win, to say nothing of a great conversation starter…

So send in your hooks and be happy!

See you in 2015,

Alexis Lusonne Montgomery
